Access and admission

If you have not yet enrolled in a doctoral program and are thinking about applying for admission to one of them, you can consult the access requirements , as well as the information necessary if you access with a foreign degree issued by a country of the EHEA or with a foreign title issued by a country outside the EHEA .

Once the access requirements have been met, consult the information to request admission . Please note that in some cases there is the possibility of requesting pre-admission .

Enrollment

Once admission is granted, you must proceed to  enroll in doctoral academic supervision .

Verification of the file in SIGMA

The information as doctoral students from the Doctoral School is incorporated into your academic record , which can be accessed through the  Virtual Secretariat . In it you can check the result of the annual evaluation .

To avoid errors in the administrative and academic procedures that concern you, verify that all your data (admission, enrollment, study modality -part-time/full-time, status -registration, temporary withdrawal-, training supplements that may have been assigned to you) and those of your tutors and directors (names, institutions to which they belong) are correct.

It is important that the director checks that he/ she has access to the Doctoral Management platform from the beginning, since his/her report is essential when evaluating . For the same reason, it is equally important that you contact the tutor assigned to you. In the  directory of the University of Zaragoza you have contact information if they belong to the University of Zaragoza.

Pay special attention to the thesis deposit deadline . If you are in the last year of academic supervision, remember that, if you do not plan to deposit within the ordinary period, it is necessary to have the extension authorized .

It is essential to sign the Doctorate Charter to know what your rights and duties are, as well as those of your directors and tutors and other signatories.

Welcome day for new doctoral students

It takes place every year during the month of November or December . Contents of interest for the correct development of the doctorate are explained. Here you have the information about these days .

Transversal training activities

They are aimed at all doctoral students , regardless of their specialization, so that they acquire skills for the knowledge society and a complex and changing labor market. The satisfaction surveys of those who do them are very good.

Website of your doctoral program

Each program has its  own website integrated into that of the University of Zaragoza. Look for yours to learn a little more about it: teaching staff, lines of research, specific training activities, agreements, mobility, etc. You will come up with new work ideas that you can discuss with your directors and tutors.

Research plan, personal training plan and activities document

The research work is evaluated annually through the presentation of your research plan or monitoring reports . In the  Academic Calendar of the Doctorate of each course you can see the deadline for its presentation . Likewise, your director(s) and tutor must present a report whose presentation date is also reported in the previous calendar.

If you are in possession of a predoctoral contract, any change in the title of the thesis, directors, etc. requires express approval by the funding body , the processing of which will be carried out by the UZ Research Management Service (SGI).

In parallel to the research work, you will have started or continued carrying out other activities (stays, courses, publications, attendance at conferences) . You have to compile them in the Doctoral Student Activities Document (DAD) , a record that is carried out through the "Doctorate Management" computer module in the  SIGMA application , which you will access with your  PIN and administrative password .

You have more details about the course evaluation here. We recommend that new doctoral students familiarize themselves with the use of SIGMA as soon as possible .

Research stays and mobility aids

During your doctoral research you can stay at other universities or national and international institutions. You have to prepare them well in advance with the directors and tutors .

You can consult the procedures for mobility stays, as well as calls for aid , at the following link.

Information about research stays

Other activities: publications, conferences, doctoral conferences

The directors and tutors will guide you on how to disseminate the results of the research in the discipline's own media.

Interdisciplinary doctoral conferences and meetings are also convened  (offered in module 10 of transversal training activities) and others of a more specific nature , in which research can be shared with other doctoral students.

Academic and administrative procedures

Enrollment in academic supervision must be  formalized annually   regardless of the dedication and year of the doctorate, including those in a situation of extension and withdrawal (voluntary or not).

Some  types of thesis (by compendium of publications , under co-tutorship , with option for industrial mention , with option for international mention ), have more complex procedures, including in some cases, the preparation of agreements . Keep them in mind to carry them out punctually.

Also be attentive to the requirements for other possible procedures , such as  withdrawals or extensions .

International doctoral students can count on the support of the  Iberus Connect ambassadors and mentors program  ( embajadoct.uz@gmail.com , iberusconnect@campusiberus.es ). The assigned mentor will guide you through the relevant administrative and academic processes at the university and other procedures to facilitate your adaptation to the doctorate and, in general, to the city.

We remind you that the applications and justifications processed during your doctorate must be submitted by  electronic record addressed to the  headquarters of the Doctoral Program or the Doctoral School, as appropriate in each case, through a generic application or specific  Solicit@ procedure . It is very important that the downloaded forms enabled on the website are used  at the time of carrying out the corresponding procedure in order to ensure that the most up-to-date version is used.

Deposit of the doctoral thesis

On these pages you can consult the thesis deposit procedure . Take into account the non-teaching period indicated in the academic calendar of the doctorate regarding the reading of doctoral theses and the end date of the academic year since, at the end of the academic year without having deposited the thesis, registration must be carried out in the new course.

Normative

The regulation of all Doctorate procedures is included in the regulations . You can consult it if you have any questions.

At the Doctoral School we work to implement quality in all procedures that affect the development of the doctorate. In  Reports and results of the internal quality management procedure  you can consult the results of the surveys carried out on doctoral students, directors, tutors and graduates.

We encourage you to follow us on the  web news , through  iEDUZ and on our  social networks . If you want us to disseminate any information of interest in the field of doctoral studies, complete this  form .
