Mobility - Stays

Types of Doctoral Stays

To advance and/or deepen the development of the thesis, during doctoral studies it is important to carry out research stays in universities and research centers other than the University of Zaragoza, both national and international, and two types can be distinguished:

  • Conventional stays . These can be both training and research placements, and can be carried out in Spanish or foreign universities or research centers.
  • Stays to qualify for international mention . They must have a minimum duration of three months and must necessarily be outside of Spain in a prestigious higher education institution or research center, studying or carrying out research work. The stay may be carried out in different centers, and in periods of at least 30 days in duration as long as there are reasons that justify it in the opinion of the Academic Commission . In general, stays cannot be carried out in institutions of the doctoral student's country of origin, residence or work . Completing the stay under these terms is one of the requirements to qualify for the international mention in the doctorate degree.

Theses under joint supervision require the completion of stays that will follow their own requirements and procedures.

Processing

Before making the stay

Application

The doctoral student must submit, with sufficient advance notice, to the administrative headquarters of the Doctoral Program and addressed to the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program, the specific application form, as the case may be:

  1. Application for conventional stay
  2. Application for stays in thesis that opt for international mention

Resolution

If the stay is conventional , the approval of the Academic Commission is sufficient. If it is the other modality (opting for international mention), the resolution of the Academic Commission of the program will be sent from the administrative headquarters of the program to the EDUZ. After receiving approval from the Permanent Commission of the Steering Committee, a copy will be sent to the program and the applicant.

After completing the stay

The doctoral student must incorporate the DAD into the SIGMA platform for evaluation:

  • Report of the stay  on the work carried out following the specific report form after completing the stay. This must include a summary of all the activities carried out during the stay in relation to the work plan and activities provided for in the application, so that it is possible to evaluate the degree of compliance thereof. In the case of training stays, details of the training received and how it fits in with the research and/or doctoral training plan must be provided.  Likewise, you must report any incidents and changes to the planned plan that have taken place . It should be taken into account that if they imply a reduction in the length of the stay, they may lead to the requirements being not met so that the International Mention for the title of Doctor can be requested at the time, if applicable.

  • Certificate from the person responsible for the stay at the host institution (only in the case of the stay modality to qualify for international mention). The document must include elements of corporate identity - letterhead, logo, seal, etc. - of said institution. This must be submitted by the doctoral student, at the time of requesting admission for processing, along with the rest of the required documentation.
