Access to doctoral studies for students with a non-approved foreign degree issued by a country outside the European Higher Education Area

People who are in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) may access a doctorate without the need for its homologation, after verification that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish Master's degree and which entitles the country of issue of the degree to access doctoral studies.

The application will be submitted, within the deadline set by the academic calendar , to the Academic Committee of the doctoral program , accompanied by the following documentation:

  • Photocopy of identity document or passport .

  • Higher education degree (official University Master's Degree or equivalent and previous official studies) legalized as appropriate according to the country of issue . At the time of making the application , only photocopies of the legalized documents can be provided , and the original legalized documents must be presented at the time of formalizing registration .

  • Personal academic certification of said studies with identical legalization as the degree.

  • Program and contents of the subjects taken in said studies.

  • Certification issued by your home university indicating that the degree obtained entitles, in the country of issue, access to doctoral studies (it must be signed by the competent authority of the home university or even the Ministry of Education ). This document must also be presented duly legalized .

Certification  model  accrediting  access to doctoral studies in the country of origin

Documents issued in a language other than Spanish, English or French must be accompanied by their official translation into Spanish.

The interested person must also submit the application for admission to the doctoral program of interest , which will be conditional on the favorable resolution of the Doctoral Committee on access to the doctorate. In any case, if this does not occur prior to the publication of the final admission resolution according to the academic calendar , you will not be able to be admitted in the ordinary period. However, once access is granted, which is notified to both the interested person and the corresponding doctoral program, the Academic Committee may decide to grant admission directly, without the interested person having to request it again.

The granting in this way of access to doctoral studies with a non-approved foreign degree will not imply , in any case, the homologation of the foreign degree held by the interested person or its recognition for purposes other than that of access to doctoral education.
