Successful and interesting EDUZ Welcome Day. Academic year 2025-26

On 16 October, around a hundred people gathered (plus those who followed the event remotely) for an afternoon full of interesting and useful information aimed mainly at people who are now beginning their doctoral studies. After the opening ceremony and words of welcome on behalf of the Rector by Pilar Pina (Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy), Ana Gracia (Faculty of Education, University of Zaragoza) highlighted the great potential of artificial intelligence-based tools for doctoral studies, emphasising the need for responsible use in a field that is not without its dangers. The EDUZ Management Team gave a brief overview of some reflections and practical aspects of doctoral studies, mentioning, among other things, the 10 Inspiring Principles of Salzburg, the challenges and key issues that arise, the Code of Good Practice for the School and its doctoral programmes and the services available at the UZ (BUZ, OPRA, OUAD, Ombudsman, etc.).

In the second block, Eva Cerezo (Deputy Director of EDUZ) presented the range of cross-disciplinary activities on offer this year and some internationalisation initiatives aimed at doctoral students, particularly in the context of the European university consortium UNITA. In this context, Belén Villacampa (head of doctoral studies at Campus Iberus) presented those promoted by the consortium Campus Iberus and the ambassador of Iberus Connect, Carla Orozco, a doctoral student in the Gender Relations and Feminist Studies programme, presented the Campus Iberus mentoring and support programme, aimed especially at international doctoral students, but also open to anyone interested in sharing and learning from their peers.

We would like to thank both the attendees and all those who took part for their participation, effort and commitment. We would also like to thank those who discreetly accompanied us in the audience for their support and work: some coordinators of doctoral programmes and thesis supervisors, as well as staff from the administrative section of EDUZ, represented on this occasion by Eva Muñoz (Administrator) and Santiago (Executive Secretary). All of them are key players in supporting the doctoral students, who are the real protagonists of this story. This is how Fernando Sanz, Director of EDUZ, referred to them as he closed the event, wishing them every success and many happy moments during their doctoral studies, which are now beginning.

The documentation used and the photo gallery are available on the event website. Certificates of attendance will be issued as soon as possible.
