Quality Assurance Committee

The Quality Assurance Committee for Doctoral Studies (CGCED) is the body responsible for establishing the criteria governing the actions of programme coordinators and for approving proposals for improvement that it deems appropriate for the planning, organisation, delivery and assessment of programmes. It exercises this authority on behalf of the Steering Committee. The CGCED assumes the functions which, until its creation, were carried out by the Doctoral Committee.

Members

The following shall form part of this Quality Assurance Committee:

1. The chair of the Management Committee

or a person to whom they delegate, who shall chair the committee.

2. The administrator of EDUZ

or a member of EDUZ’s technical, management, administrative or support staff with responsibility for quality matters, or a person to whom they delegate, who shall act as secretary to the committee.

Functions

The CGCED has the following functions:

• To establish specific quality assurance criteria and guidelines with which EDUZ doctoral programmes must comply.
• To promote and oversee the internal quality management system applicable to EDUZ and its doctoral programmes, and to coordinate the implementation of its procedures.
• To approve the Annual Innovation and Improvement Plans (PAIM) for the doctoral programmes for submission to the Postgraduate Studies Committee of the University of Zaragoza.
• To draw up, on the basis of the Quality Assessment Reports (IEC) for the doctoral programmes, and to approve the Annual Report on the Quality of Doctoral Studies (ICED), which shall include the relevant assessments and recommendations to ensure their compliance with EDUZ’s quality policy and objectives. It must be submitted to the Management Committee.
• To resolve appeals against decisions taken by the programmes’ Academic Committees.
• Any other functions delegated to it by the Management Committee and relating to the nature of this Committee.

Delegation of powers by the Management Committee

The following functions of the Steering Committee (Resolution of 13 May 2026 of the Governing Council of the University of Zaragoza approving the Internal Regulations of the Doctoral School) are delegated to the Commission for Quality Assurance in Doctoral Studies (CGCED):

• To declare the academic equivalence of foreign qualifications at Doctoral level, in accordance with the procedure established for this purpose by the Governing Council.
• To draft reports for the award of honorary doctorates, which shall be submitted to the Governing Council.
• To approve criteria and make proposals regarding honours relating to doctoral studies.
• Recognition of research experience in accordance with public and objective criteria, by discipline, field or area of knowledge.

Meeting schedule

The CGCED meets once a month, usually on the last Wednesday of each month. Where possible, efforts will be made to ensure that documentation submitted to the EDUZ is processed at least 5 teaching days in advance.
