EUA Council for Doctoral Education

The Association provides opportunities to shape European policies and initiatives affecting higher education and research. Of particular interest is the forum established in the association's doctoral section (EUA Council for Doctoral Education, EUZ-CDE).

The name UNITA, almost the same as the Italian word unità (unity), evokes the strong ties and commonalities that unite UNITA universities to create a pioneering and innovative alliance that aims for closer integration.
The subtitle Universitas Montium, written in Latin, highlights that all UNITA universities speak Romance languages and are committed to promoting linguistic diversity and the development of cross-border rural and mountain areas.
The project is being developed in three thematic areas—which will be progressively expanded—in which the six universities in the alliance are strong and complementary: Cultural Heritage, Renewable Energy and Circular Economy. All this is based on a strong commitment to environmental sustainability (SDGs, European Green Deal) and a commitment to developing and reformulating the notion of European citizenship to make it more inclusive by contributing the perspective of communities in southern Europe with rural areas threatened by depopulation or marginalisation.
Conference of Directors of Doctoral Schools (CDED)
The Conference of Directors of Doctoral Schools (CDED) was created at the University of Alcalá in November 2013. It is an association in which directors of doctoral schools from Spanish public and private universities participate.
The main objective of the CDED is the constant improvement of the quality of doctoral studies.
To this end, its aims are:
To create a forum for debate on topics of common interest to doctoral schools.
To exchange academic and organisational experiences.
Develop cooperation between different doctoral schools.
Formulate all kinds of proposals related to doctoral studies to the competent administrations and bodies.
Establish links or relationships with other international associations of a similar nature and with similar aims.
Group 9 of Universities | G9
The Group of 9 Universities is a non-profit association made up of Spanish public universities that are the only public universities in their respective autonomous communities:
University of Cantabria
University of Castilla La Mancha
University of Extremadura
University of the Balearic Islands
University of La Rioja
University of Oviedo
University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea

The Group was established by an agreement signed on 16 May 1997. The G-9 universities, as reflected in their statutes, have the common social objective of promoting collaboration between the university institutions belonging to the Group, both in terms of teaching and research activities and in terms of management and services.
The G-9 universities collaborate in the academic and teaching fields and encourage collaboration in the scientific and research fields.
Campus Iberus
Campus Iberus is a strategic aggregation project launched in 2010 as part of the International Campus of Excellence Programme of the Ministry of Education's University Strategy 2015 for the improvement of the quality of Spanish universities, by the following universities:
University of Zaragoza (UZ)
Public University of Navarra (UPNA)
University of La Rioja (UR)
University of Lleida (UdL)
Its strategy is based on the principles of aggregation, specialisation and internationalisation, with particular emphasis on the areas of ‘Agri-food and Nutrition’, ‘Energy, Environment and Sustainability’, ‘Social and Territorial Development’, ‘Health Technologies’ and ‘Circular Economy and Bioeconomy’, which are reflected as thematic priorities in the smart specialisation strategies of the four regions linked to the Campus.
With the aim of creating ‘knowledge ecosystems’ that promote excellence, cooperation and efficiency in the use of shared resources, Campus Iberus promotes joint actions between its four universities in the fields of higher education and training, research and innovation, students and internationalisation, seeking to have an impact on the territory as well as an international dimension.
In the coming years, Campus Iberus is committed to remaining an international benchmark for university aggregation, developing the excellence, innovative potential and competitiveness of our universities in collaboration with public and private entities in the area through the design and implementation of activities and programmes that enable the sharing of resources, the pooling of capabilities and the tackling of new challenges in education, research and innovation in a global context.
