Applications for access to doctoral studies with a non-approved foreign degree outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)1

  • First ordinary deadline: from 3 June to 5 July 2024.
  • *The Doctoral Committee will decide before 5 September 2024.
  • Second ordinary deadline: from 2 to 20 December 2024.
  • *The Doctoral Committee will decide before 30 January 2025.
  • Place: through the SOLICIT@ service of the Electronic Administration.

  • Place: University electronic bulletin board.

  • Complaints in case of non-admission to the Doctoral Committee: 19 and 20 September 2024. The Doctoral Committee will make a decision at its meeting on 25 September.

*Those who are pending obtaining the academic requirements necessary for access to the doctorate may submit their application within the admission period established in the academic calendar and be considered by the academic committees of the programs. In any case, admission to them may not be granted without accreditation that the aforementioned access requirements are met before the date of publication of the final admission lists of the programs.

Enrollment in doctoral studies1

Registration deadlines

  • Continuation : from 2 to 13 September 2024.

  • New entry : from 20 to 30 September 2024.

  • Enrolment, second term for new students3: from 15 March to 4 April 2025.

  • Place: Self-registration through the virtual secretary's office.

Self-enrollment through the virtual secretariat: Students whose access to the Doctorate degree has been obtained at universities other than the University of Zaragoza, once self-enrolled through the virtual secretariat , will send their doctoral access degrees (legalized and legitimized via diplomatic or certified documents, if applicable), preferably by postal mail to the Doctoral School Section, C/ Pedro Cerbuna, 12, 50009-Zaragoza.

Students admitted during an extraordinary period : any school day, preferably within five school days from the date of admission. Registration will be done in person or a registration form will be sent  by postal mail to the Doctoral School (c/Pedro Cerbuna, 12, Edificio Interfacultades, 50009, Zaragoza).

Annual evaluation of the Research Plan and the Doctoral Student Activities Document (DAD)

  • Deadline for submission of the research plan and the activities document , for annual evaluation by doctoral students: until 9 May 2025.

  • Deadline for submission of tutor and director reports : until 16 May 2025.

  • Deadline for delivery of the evaluation minutes by the coordinators: until 2 July 2025.

  • Deadlines for the second review in case of negative evaluation : a new research plan must be submitted within six months of the negative evaluation.

Reading of doctoral theses

During non-teaching days, readings or presentations of doctoral theses may not be held, nor may ordinary meetings of collegiate , government or university participation bodies be called.

Saturdays and holidays and the periods established in the general calendar of the University of Zaragoza are considered non-teaching hours .

  • Christmas 2024: from 23 December 2024 to 6 January 2025.

  • Easter 2025: from 14 March to 21 April 2025.

  • Summer 2024: from 14 July to 31 August 2025.

For the exclusive purposes of reading doctoral theses, July 14 to 25, 2025 will be considered teaching days , and doctoral theses can be defended in the morning or in a non-face-to-face mode.

 

 1. However, outside these ordinary periods, applications for admission and access may be accepted in exceptional circumstances, such as those submitted by students benefiting from pre-doctoral or equivalent contracts funded through competitive calls in accordance with the provisions of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation or subject to specific co-tutelage agreements which, in either case, include as a requirement to access a doctoral programme, provided that they meet the access requirements established in the current provisions. Other exceptional circumstances must be approved by the Standing Committee of the EDUZ Steering Committee, following a report from the Academic Committee of the doctoral programme.

2. Those who have not yet obtained the necessary academic requirements for access to the doctoral programme may submit their application within the admission period established in the academic calendar and be considered by the academic committees of the programmes. In any case, admission to these programmes may not be granted without accreditation that the aforementioned access requirements have been met before the date of publication of the definitive admission lists for the programmes.

3. Only if there are vacancies on the corresponding doctoral programme.

4. A decision must be taken before 31 March.
