(Madrid/Zaragoza, 22 April 2026). The sixth edition of the competition “#HiloTesis: Your doctoral thesis on social media” is now underway, aiming to promote the development of communication skills and scientific outreach among trainee researchers who are currently working on their doctoral thesis or who have defended their thesis within the last 12 months.
The Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), in collaboration with the Network for Scientific Dissemination and Culture (RedDivulga) of the CRUE-R&D&I sector and the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation, is launching this initiative, which has been very well received. The fifth edition of HiloTesis saw the participation of 489 people from 58 Spanish universities.
Through this call for entries, participants are invited to present their research in a carousel format on Instagram, adapting the content of their thesis into simple and visually appealing language, with the aim of bringing their findings closer to society. The aim of this initiative is to promote scientific dissemination and the development of communication skills among future researchers. With the support of the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation, the call seeks to reinforce the social relevance of research, viewing it as a key pillar for a more open, fair and balanced society.
The competition is open to all researchers currently enrolled in PhD programmes or who have defended their thesis within the last 12 months, provided they are members of universities affiliated with CRUE. Participants must have the authorisation of their thesis supervisor and undertake to ensure that the information shared is suitable for public dissemination, whilst respecting any confidentiality agreements in all cases.
The competition: Deadlines and instructions
The competition will run from 00:00 on 1 May 2026 until 23:59 on 21 May 2026 (Spanish mainland time). Publications or entries submitted outside this period will not be considered. Participating research trainees must, once the thread has been published, register and provide the link via the following form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/XSdPMELDza. Entries not correctly registered via the form, submitted after the deadline, or where the link provided is incorrect will not be considered.
The first post in the thread or carousel must include the hashtag #HiloTesis and, if possible, mention or tag @crueuniversidad, @fundacionignaciolarramendi and the account of the participating university or, where applicable, its UCC+I, if they have one.
Participants may enhance their presentation with visual elements such as images, videos, links and emojis, with the aim of making their work more engaging and accessible. Furthermore, the thread may be posted in any of the co-official languages of the State, but their university must provide a Spanish translation should it be selected for the national phase. This competition reinforces CRUE’s commitment to scientific outreach and the promotion of effective research communication, with the aim of bringing academic and scientific work closer to society.
