Opening of the María Antonia Zorraquino Hall and the Francisco Marco Seminar

On Friday 20 March 2026, the University of Zaragoza’s Doctoral School hosted the opening ceremony for the María Antonia Martín Zorraquino Room (named in honour of the University of Zaragoza’s first female PhD graduate), as well as the Francisco Marco Seminar (dedicated to the Doctoral School’s first director).

The event was attended by María Antonia Martín Zorraquino and Francisco Marco, whose presence was a great honour for the Doctoral School.

It was also a privilege to have the Rector of the University of Zaragoza, Rosa Bolea, in attendance, accompanied by several members of the governing team (Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy, M. Pilar Pina; Vice-Rector for Academic Policy, Luis Morellón; Deputy to the Rector for Coordination and Institutional Relations, Elizabeth Piris; and Director of the Secretariat for Master’s and Doctoral Studies, Pablo Sanz).

Belén Villacampa, PhD coordinator at Campus Iberus, was also in attendance.

Also in attendance were the former management team of the Doctoral School (Fernando Sanz and María Eugenia Marqués), the current team (Director Eva Cerezo, Deputy Directors Luis Casaló and Marta Haro, and Professor-Secretary Cristina Sánchez) and the administrator and staff of the department, as well as representatives of the doctoral students and the Chair of the Doctoral Committee.

The event served as a tribute to the careers and contributions of those honoured and provided an opportunity to highlight the history of the Doctoral School and its commitment to academic excellence, research and doctoral training.
