The 7th Doctoral Symposium of the Doctoral Program in Organic Chemistry showcases the research talent of its doctoral students
The Doctoral Program in Organic Chemistry at the University of Zaragoza held its 7th Doctoral Conference last Friday, June 12, 2026—an event that has become a well-established part of the program’s specific educational activities and is designed as a forum for meeting, monitoring, and disseminating the research conducted by its doctoral students.
The conference was opened by the director of the University of Zaragoza’s Doctoral School, Prof. Eva Cerezo, who provided an overview of the school’s activities and doctoral training at the institution. During her remarks, she emphasized the importance of taking advantage, from the very beginning of the doctoral program, of the resources and opportunities that the University of Zaragoza, the Doctoral School, and the various consortia and collaborative networks make available to research students. Among these, she highlighted the importance of cross-disciplinary training activities, academic and scientific meetings, as well as initiatives aimed at promoting internationalization and the comprehensive development of research careers.
Following the opening ceremony, ten first-year doctoral students presented their respective research plans and personalized training plans, divided into two sessions of presentations. These presentations highlighted the thematic diversity and scientific potential of the projects now getting underway within the framework of the program.
Between the two sessions, a guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Isaac Giménez Sonsona, currently a researcher at the University of Murcia and an alumnus of the Organic Chemistry Ph.D. Program itself. His talk offered valuable insights into the different stages of a research career and provided attendees with numerous resources, recommendations, and tools to navigate their professional development after earning their Ph.D.
The final session was dedicated to the presentation of research progress by six second-year doctoral students, who outlined the main results achieved to date and discussed the scientific challenges associated with their respective projects.
The various sessions were presented and moderated by members of the program’s Academic Committee, which is responsible for the annual monitoring and evaluation of the doctoral students’ training process. The committee highly praised the scientific caliber of the work presented, as well as the quality of the presentations and the level of maturity demonstrated by the researchers in training.
The holding of this seventh edition once again highlights the strength and dynamism of the Doctoral Program in Organic Chemistry, which welcomes a new generation of researchers while acknowledging the excellent results achieved by those who are making steady progress in the development of their doctoral dissertations.
The event proved particularly rewarding and enriching not only for the doctoral candidates who presented their work but also for the rest of the program’s students who attended the various sessions, in many cases accompanied by their thesis advisors—true cornerstones in the design, development, and success of the research projects. The exchange of experiences, knowledge, and perspectives among researchers at different stages of their training has helped foster an atmosphere of collective learning and strengthened the program’s academic community.
