Academic Calendar for the Doctoral Programme, 2026–2027 Academic Year

The 2026–2027 academic year will begin on 1 September 2026 and will end on 31 August 2027. The PhD academic calendar for the 2026–2027 academic year was approved by a resolution of the Standing Committee of the Governing Board of the PhD School on 15 January 2026.

Information and instructions on the application process for admission to doctoral programmes.

First standard application round

From 1 June to 10 July 2026.
Location: Administrative headquarters of the doctoral programme via virtual secretariat.

Provisional list

Publication of the provisional list: 11 September 2026.
Location: University noticeboard.
Appeals⁶ against the provisional list: to the Academic Committee of the PhD programme: 14 and 15 September 2026.
Location: University Electronic Registry.

Final list

Publication of the final list of successful applicants: 21 September 2026.
Location: University noticeboard.
Appeals⁷ in the event of non-admission to the Doctoral School: 22 and 23 September 2026.

Extra deadline¹⁰

At any time from 1 October 2026.
Venue: Before the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme, preferably via online registration.

*Those who have yet to fulfil the academic requirements necessary for admission to the doctoral programme may submit their application within the admission period set out in the academic calendar and will be considered by the programmes’ Academic Committees. In any case, admission to these programmes cannot be granted without proof that the aforementioned entry requirements have been met before the date of publication of the programmes’ final admission lists.

For new enrolments: from 28 September to 9 October 2026. Location: Via virtual registrar’s office.

How to submit documentation (deadline: 10 teaching days from the date of enrolment):

In the case of qualifications granting access to doctoral studies and documents not signed electronically, these may be verified at any registration support office (https://secregen.unizar.es/registro-general/presentacion). To do so, you must provide the original and a copy and quote the DIR3 code for the University of Zaragoza’s Doctoral School: U02100031.

Students admitted during the supplementary admission period: within five working days of the date of admission. Enrolment must be completed with the Doctoral School via the online registration system.

PhD thesis defence

Information on the procedure

On non-teaching days, no doctoral thesis defences or presentations may take place, nor may ordinary meetings of collegial bodies, governing bodies or university participation bodies be convened.

Saturdays, public holidays and the periods set out in the University of Zaragoza’s general calendar, such as:

Christmas 2026: from 23 December 2026 to 6 January 2026.
Easter 2027: from 25 March to 2 April 2026.
Summer 2027: 12 July to 31 August 2026.

For the sole purpose of doctoral thesis defences, the period from 12 to 23 July 2027 shall be considered a teaching period, and doctoral theses may be defended in the morning or via remote means.

_1._{Applicants with non-recognised foreign qualifications from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) must also apply for the}_ADMISSION_{(application period open year-round).}

_{2. Applications may be submitted without meeting the necessary entry and admission requirements, but these must be verified during the rectification period following the publication of the provisional list.}

_{3. To the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme, via the virtual secretariat.}

_{4. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for individuals holding pre-doctoral or equivalent contracts, as well as those undertaking jointly supervised or industry-based theses.}

_{5. The Standing Committee of the EDUZ Management Committee, at the request of the interested party and following a report from the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme, may authorise applications for admission and enrolment outside the standard periods in very exceptional and duly justified circumstances.}
