First edition of the Doctoral Thesis Award in Water, Health and Society.
The Chair of Water, Health and Society at the University of Zaragoza and the Provincial Council of Zaragoza, with the aim of promoting and rewarding research excellence in doctoral theses that make significant contributions to knowledge in their field and objectives, announce the first edition of the Doctoral Thesis Awardin Water, Health and Society.
Terms and conditions
1. Doctors from any programme at any Spanish university who, during the academic years (2022-23; 2023-24; 2024-25), have defended their doctoral research on a topic related to water, health and society, particularly in relation to ‘salus per aquam’, thermalism and hydrotherapy, are eligible to apply. This may be from any perspective and area of knowledge.
2. This award is compatible with any other award, grant or scholarship awarded by any other institution.
3. The evaluation of the candidate works will be based on criteria of quality, relevance, originality and usefulness of the research.
4. The deadline for submitting entries is 15 December 2025 at 2 p.m.
5. Thesis submissions must include:
A letter of recommendation from the thesis supervisor giving a favourable opinion of the thesis, including the grade obtained in the defence.
Identification of the participant by means of a letter stating their full personal details, including a copy of their national identity card.
Theses that do not meet these requirements will be automatically disqualified.
6. Theses must be submitted in hard copy, correctly printed and bound, as well as in digital format (flash drive, CD, etc.). Both may be delivered either to the headquarters of the Chair of Water, Health and Society or by registered post to: Chair of Water, Health and Society; Faculty of Health Sciences; University of Zaragoza; C/ Domingo Miral s/n; 50009 - Zaragoza
7. The prize is worth 1000 euros.
8. The theses will be evaluated by a committee appointed for this purpose by the Chair. The committee may consult with academic and professional experts as it deems appropriate in order to decide on the suitability of the doctoral research submitted. If the committee considers that the theses do not meet the minimum quality requirements or are not related to the proposed topic, the prize may be declared void. In any case, the Committee shall have the power to take the decisions it deems most appropriate, and its decisions shall be final.
9. The thesis that wins the award in this call for entries shall be made available to the Chair of Water, Health and Society, which may use it for informational and awareness-raising purposes, always citing the name of the author. In all cases, the originals submitted will not be returned and will be archived by the Chair.
10. The place and date of the award ceremony will be announced in due course to those interested. The award ceremony will include a brief public presentation of the work. It is essential that the winners attend the ceremony.
