Defence of the thesis by videoconference
Upon a reasoned request made by the doctoral candidate, and with a favourable report from the programme's Academic Committee, the EDUZ may authorise the defence of doctoral theses in which the doctoral candidate and/or one or more of the members of the examining board act by videoconference, with the possibility of completely remote defences. This request for permission must be submitted by electronic registration addressed to the administrative headquarters of the corresponding doctoral programme prior to the call for the defence. In cases of force majeure, the request may be submitted after that date, but always prior to the defence of the thesis.
The application must specify the list of people who will be present in person and those who will participate via videoconference. For all those members who will not be present in person and who do not have an electronic signature, a copy of their ID card or passport must be sent with the application.
In addition, the details of the person who will act as host of the videoconference must be indicated, who may be a member of the examining board or one of the directors of the thesis. The host must communicate the session identifier to EDUZ (tesis@unizar.es) so that any interested person who so requests can attend the planned defence event. The videoconferencing platform can be any one chosen by the host.
EDUZ will contact the members of the examining board to transmit the appropriate instructions regarding the development of the event and the management of the associated documentation, which will preferably be processed by electronic means.
In the event that the doctoral candidate participates by videoconference, the defence must be recorded. The environment where the defence is to take place may be viewed to ensure that it is carried out under the appropriate conditions, but without recording images of that environment, limiting the recording to the doctoral student. The person hosting the videoconference will be in charge of making the recording and providing it to EDUZ once the event is over.
