Dropping out of doctoral studies.

Doctoral students must register annually for academic supervision. Failure to do so will be considered as a reason for dropping out of the doctoral programme.

Doctoral students who decide to abandon their doctoral studies of their own free will must notify the Doctoral School in writing. The public fees corresponding to the cancelled registration will only be refunded when the cancellation request is due to a cause attributable to the University of Zaragoza or when the cancellation request is made within one month from the date of registration. The amount corresponding to administrative fees and school insurance will not be refunded, but if the doctoral student enrols in another programme at the University of Zaragoza, he/she will be exempted from payment in the new programme.

  • If the student drops out before the end of the academic year to which the first registration corresponds, the cancellation will entail the loss of the corresponding academic effects, without the right to reserve a place for subsequent years on the programme. However, students may reapply for admission to the same programme in subsequent years, in which case they will be considered new doctoral students.

  • If the drop-out occurs after the second year in the programme, it will be considered as a definitive withdrawal.
