Good Practice in EDUZ

Code of Good Practice for your Doctoral School and Programmes

The RD 99/2011, of 28 January 2011, which regulates official doctoral studies, establishes that "all members of a doctoral school must sign a commitment to comply with the Code of Good Practice adopted by the school". On the other hand, it states that the Universities will establish the supervision functions of the doctoral students by means of a documentary commitment that at the University of Zaragoza takes the form of the Doctoral Letter, which must be signed by the doctoral student, his/her tutor, his/her director(s) and the Director of the EDUZ, endorsed by the coordinator of the corresponding doctoral programme. This letter includes a clause stating that the signatories of this document are obliged to comply with the Code of Good Practices adopted by the Doctoral School.

This Code serves as a suitable instrument for channelling the relations between the doctoral student, the researchers responsible for their training and the University, through the EDUZ. It is inspired by the European Charter for Researchers and is a complementary instrument to existing regulations (mainly the EDUZ Internal Regulations). It aims to generate a common culture that will lead to an increase in the quality of doctoral training and contribute to rigour, respect, responsibility and integrity in the development of scientific activity.

This code does not intend to enter into legal or ethical competences of any other nature, which may fall within the scope of action of other bodies, services and committees of the University.

Given the uniqueness of doctoral training, in which the learning process combines the acquisition and generation of knowledge, this code should be understood as a complement in doctoral matters to the Code of Good Research Practices of the UZ.

The Ethical Code of the University of Zaragoza should also be taken into consideration, which is established as the general reference framework to guide the actions in the performance of the university activity.   As well as the Regulation of coexistence rules of the University of Zaragoza, approved by the Governing Council on March 30th, 2023.
